Celebrating Liberia at Expo 2023 Doha: A Showcase of Culture and Nature

February 22, 2024

Expo 2023 Doha celebrated the National Day of the Republic of Liberia, a significant event that brought together dignitaries and officials, including His Excellency, Ali Sela, the Acting Liberian Ambassador to Doha and His Excellency Badr bin Omar Al Dafa, Expo 2023 Doha Commissioner General. The celebration took place at the Expo 2023 Doha's International Zone in Al Bidda Park, reflecting the vibrant partnership and cultural exchange between nations participating in the global event.

The festivities featured a rich display of Liberian cultural heritage through music and dance, encapsulating the spirit of Liberia as the "Land of the Free" and a "Heavenly Pearl" in Africa. Attendees were then invited to explore the Liberia Pavilion, which offered a deep dive into the country's abundant natural wealth and landmarks under the theme "Amazing Discoveries." Highlighting Liberia as home to the world's largest contiguous rubber plantation and one of the highest rainfall rates in Africa, the pavilion presented a diverse range of tropical plants and organic farming practices, truly embodying the Liberian motto, "Plant It and It Will Grow."

The Liberia Pavilion played a pivotal role in promoting tourism to Liberia, showcasing its untouched natural landscapes, pristine 360-mile coastline adorned with coconut palms, mountain views, and serene lakes. It emphasized Liberia's rich geography, including the vast remnants of rainforests. The pavilion also highlighted Liberia's globally renowned coffee alongside the "Forastero" cocoa, known for its robust beans ideal for producing some of the world's finest chocolate.

This celebration of Liberia's National Day at Expo 2023 Doha underscores the commitment to fostering cultural exchange and showcasing the diverse achievements of the participating nations, all while aligning with the overarching objective of promoting sustainable development and tackling the pressing issue of climate change.
