Expo 2023 Doha hosts a workshop on the occasion of World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week

November 19, 2023

In a joint effort with the Ministry of Public Health, a workshop on World Antimicrobials Awareness Week (WAAW) 2023 unfolded at the Congress Center in Expo 2023 Doha on 19 November.

The event focused on enhancing awareness about the responsible use of antimicrobials.

Aligned with this year's theme, "Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together," the workshop stressed the significance of collective action in combatting the global health challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The theme echoes the objectives outlined in the global action plan endorsed at the Sixty-eighth World Health Assembly in May 2015.

The plan aims to address the escalating issue of resistance to antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines by improving awareness and understanding through effective communication, education, and training.

World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) occurs annually from 18 November to 24 November. This global campaign aims to raise awareness and advocates for the best approaches and practices to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). By involving the public, One Health stakeholders, and policymakers, the event highlights their pivotal role in reducing the rise and transmission of AMR.
