Expo 2023 Doha Hosts “Omani Environment Week”, a Beacon of Sustainability.

March 03, 2024

Taking place in the Exhibition centre, at the heart of the Cultural Zone, Expo 2023 Doha played host to the highly anticipated Omani Environment Week, a hub of environmental innovation and sustainability. Featuring more than 5 panel discussions and workshops, the weeklong event sheds light on prevalent environmental challenges afflicting the GCC region such as desertification and droughts. The Omani Environment Week also serves as a platform providing a conducive space for the exchange of latest findings in the space of sustainability but also offers a progressive outlook to mitigate the adverse effect of climate change.

Reflecting Oman’s exemplary stewardship of its natural environment, the “Omani Environment” week provides a blend of insightful workshops and panel discussions that offer an expert view and time-honoured methods for environmental conservation in the region.

Throughout the week, environmental enthusiasts, regulators, and visitors of all stripes engaged in a wealth of themes which encompass the introduction of Oman’s ambitious initiative for transplanting 10 million trees, the Omani blue carbon project, The Oman national strategy on combatting drought, laws, and regulation for using treated water, the role of natural reserve for combatting desertification, and ground-breaking climate change solution.

The event comes in the wake of a GCC wide commitment to position itself as a key contributor to the global low-carbon transition, balancing energy security with the deployment of renewables for a zero-carbon future. The GCC is poised to become a leader in the MENA region and globally as it invests greater resources and capabilities toward a better climate and a liveable planet.
