Expo 2023 Doha takes part in the 74th Annual Congress of the International Association for Horticultural Producers in Almere, the Netherlands

Qatar delegation joins the world’s horticulture champions to discuss sustainable future in the urbanised world and present its ‘Green Desert’ strategy  

The Floriade 2022, the world’s 23rd horticultural exhibition hosted in Almere, the Netherlands, has brought international delegations and leading horticulture experts together for a three-day the International Association for Horticultural Producers (AIPH) congress held between September 27th to September 30th. Representing Expo 2023 Doha, its Secretary General, Mr. Mohammed Ali Alkhoori, has joined to introduce Qatar’s vision of horticulture and its proposed solutions to fight desertification.  

Set to start in October 2023, Expo Doha 2023 will be the first horticultural Expo to take place in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country and within an arid area, heightening the global event’s relevance in the wider context of global warming and desertification, currently faced by many countries of the world.  

The Secretary-General of Expo 2023 Doha announced at the 74th Annual AIPH Conference, the start of the countdown one year away from the most important international horticultural exhibition and confirmed the readiness of the State of Qatar to host this distinguished event. 

Mr. Alkhoori presented the progress already made in construction and landscaping in preparation for the Expo Doha 2023 in Doha’s vast Al Bidda park. To date the Qatar-based event has so far secured the participation of thirty countries, and aims to secure fifty more.  

 “We strive to be a catalyst for change by hosting this large-scale international exhibition and providing an effective platform for dialogue on horticulture, sustainability, and the environment. We are ‎keen to pave the way for an international exchange on innovation and technology ‎to facilitate the global transformation towards green cities around the world."‎, said Mr. Alkhoori outlining Qatar’s approach to the Expo.  

A unique opportunity for the global community to meet and reflect on global and local horticultural solutions for the first time in the Middle East, Expo 2023 Doha will also be a platform for cultural exchange. To attract visitors and boost the event’s exposure, the Expo 2023 Doha team will also carry out marketing and communications activities, raising awareness among governments, professionals and the wider public.
