Heritage, Culture, and an Eye on the Future: Expo 2023 Doha Marks Qatar National Day

In a long-anticipated ceremony designed to showcase the richness of Qatar’s culture and the depth of its heritage, Expo 2023 Doha celebrated the Qatar National Day on Thursday, December 21st. In attendance were a number of dignitaries, including HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, Minister of Municipality and Chairman of Expo 2023 Doha Organizing Committee, as well as Expo 2023 Doha Secretary General Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Khoori and HE Bader bin Omar Al Dafa, Commissioner General of Expo 2023 Doha, alongside a host of ambassadors, commissioners, and esteemed figures.

The Qatari National Anthem kicked off the ceremony which featured a number of exciting and culturally significant events that highlighted the vibrancy and depth of Qatar’s history and the nation’s commitment to environmental preservation and stewardship, including the traditional Ardha sword dance, popular children’s games from Qatar’s past and present, and horse parades, in addition to the depiction of the largest Qatari flag using 300,000 flowers. Participants were also treated to live musical performances and a stellar show using drones that lit the Doha sky.

Commenting on the event, HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, Minister of Municipality said: “As we celebrate the Qatar National Day, we are once again reminded of how far we have come as a nation thanks first and foremost to the wisdom and foresight of our leadership, namely His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar. We’ve built on our proud and resilient heritage to become a regional and global leader in sustainability, environmental preservation, and innovation, as evidenced by Expo 2023 Doha, the event that has become a platform for innovators, environmentalists, and climate enthusiasts and a forum for joint efforts and international collaboration.”

Expo 2023 Doha Commissioner General HE Bader bin Omar Al Dafa added: “We are truly grateful for the presence of all ambassadors and commissioners from different countries, who have come together to celebrate the Qatar National Day with us. Their participation in this event truly showcases the strong relationships and partnerships that Qatar has built with the international community, and I thank them all for being a part of this momentous occasion."

Expo 2023 Doha will continue to offer unique, interactive, and immersive experiences and displays to the visitors of Al Bidda Park until March 28th, 2024.
