Thousands of Trees to be Planted Across Qatari Parks in Landmark Initiative by ABB and Expo 2023 Doha
As part of the ambitious ten million tree initiative introduced by the government of Qatar with the aim of enhancing local biodiversity and improving overall air quality, global engineering powerhouse ABB will donate 2,400 trees to the Ministry of Municipality to be planted across local parks.
The initiative made a striking debut with the ceremonial planting of 30 trees on Expo 2023 Doha premises, highlighting the organization’s keen interest in furthering its environmental and sustainability footprint in Qatar.
Charbel Zouein, Local business manager at ABB said during the ceremony: “Partnering with expo 2023 Doha was a natural choice as both parties recognize that sustainability and environmental concerns sit on top of our respective agendas. This partnership embodies our sincere appreciation of Qatar’s leadership and its people who were part and parcel of our success, and represents a tangible translation of ABB’s guiding principle “Keep the world turning while saving energy every day”. And, as we help our clients reduce their CO2 footprint, we hope today’s initiative will help the environment via CO2 capture and reaffirm our ambition to play a more significant role in Qatar’s sustainable transition.”
Commenting on the initiative, Expo 2023 Doha Secretary General, Mr. Mohammed Al Khoori said: “We are proud to join forces with organizations that operate locally and give back to local communities. This joint endeavour with ABB embodies the successful partnership between the private sector and the government of Qatar in achieving a mutual objective for the greater good of local communities”.
As a testament of ABB’s long-term commitment to the Qatari market, the organization has decided to incentivize customers by introducing a scheme in 2024, where a tree will be planted for every order the company receives (ABB motors and drives), and a certificate will be sent to the customer to commemorate the milestone.
